Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the League Management Committee (LMC), Salisu Abubakar, has declared that his club would be paying more attention to the home matches of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) champions, Kano Pillars.
Salisu noted that more of the club’s matches would be televised to avoid any issue of intimidation of visiting teams and match officials.
The LMC COO noted also that as soon as security improves in the northern part of the country, more matches of other clubs in the North would be shown on television.
He said: “You are aware of the security situation in the country; as soon as it is addressed, you will see a lot of matches being shown live on television; especially in Kano and northern parts of the country.
“We are not leaving any club in isolation; football is being played in Nigeria and everybody is aware of the security situation.”
He also revealed that teams would get incentives for agreeing to have their home league matches shown on television, adding that the winner of the league might end up pocketing as high as N90 million, while the relegated teams might smile home with as much as N50 million.
“From last season, we paid N250,000 for live games throughout the season and we are going to pay for this season. And this season, we introduced something like, if you have 5,000 fans in the stadium, we give you N250, 000. “And if you win an away game, we give you another N250, 000; if you get a draw away, we give you N100, 000. So by our calculations, the winner of the league at the end of the day may get close to N90 million. And the least team that would be relegated will get N50 million,” he added.
