Piers Morgan mourns Diogo Jota, calls striker’s death ‘Desperately sad news’

British broadcaster, Piers Morgan on Thursday reacted to the death of Liverpool striker, Diogo Jota, calling it a “Desperately sad news”

He made his feelings known in a post he shared on his verified X handle. 

Jota and his brother Andre died in a car accident in the province of Zamora, Spain.

His tragic passing comes only two weeks after he got married to his long-term girlfriend, Rute Cardoso, in Porto.

Reacting to the demise of the striker, Morgan expressed sadness over his death, noting that he just walked down the aisle two weeks ago.

He wrote, “Desperately sad news coming out of Spain that Liverpool and Portugal star Diogo Jota, 28, has died, along with his brother, in a car accident in Zamora.

“He only got married 2 weeks ago. Heart-breaking.”

Jota was part of the Liverpool squad that won the  Premier League title last season.

The Portuguese international began
his professional career with Paços de Ferreira before moves to Atlético Madrid (no appearances), Porto (loan), and Wolves, where he played a key role in their promotion to the Premier League.

In 2020, he signed for Liverpool in a deal reported at around £41 million, contributing significantly to their attack with 47 goals in 123 appearances.
