PGMOL to investigate Robertson, Asst Referee clash

PGMOL after the incident between Hatzidakis and Robertson at Anfield, confirmed it will investigate what transpired

The body charged with officiating Premier Leagues games, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) is looking into a not too pleasant encounter between assistant referee, Constantine Hatzidakis and Liverpool defender, Andy Robertson at Anfield during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Sunday.

The Reds defender had approached the assistant referee as the half-time whistle blew but the match official would have none of it.

Robertson later accused Hatzidakis of knowingly elbowing him, claiming he struck him in the throat during the encounter.

Centre Referee, Paul Tierney eventually showed Robertson a yellow card for his protests, as the two teams disappeared down the tunnel.

PGMOL, which oversees referees in English football, after the incident confirmed it is investigating what transpired between the duo.  

A statement from the body read: “PGMOL is aware of an incident involving assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis and Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson at half-time during the Liverpool vs Arsenal fixture at Anfield.

“We will review the matter in full once the game has concluded,”
