Major and other marketers of petroleum motor spirit (PMS) are still selling the product at N97 per litre despite the directive from government Sunday night that the price be reduced to N87 per litre, effective 12 midnight.
Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke who communicated the price reduction order to Nigerians said she had directed all the relevant offices, particularly the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) to ensure that the reduction takes effect immediately.
But investigation on Monday by TheNiche showed that virtually all the major marketers and other sundry petrol filing stations in Lagos and environs are yet to comply with the directive, fueling fears that they may not be in a hurry to lower the price.
At the Total filing station on Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja one of the engineers acknowledged that the directive had been communicated to them but said the engineers who should have effected the price change were yet to be sent to them.
Also, from the Mobil filing station on Airport Road, Ikeja, Lagos, the new price regime is yet to be effected. The attendants told our reporter that they have not been directed by their management to lower the price.
The story was the same at the other filing stations around Ifo area of Ojodu in Ogun state as well as Isheri in Lagos.
