Petition to ban El-rufai from EU, UK inches close to 50,000 signatures

The petition seeking the United Kingdom (UK) and the European Union (EU) to place Visa ban on Governor Nasir El-rufai of Kaduna State, has exceeded the 25,000 mark earlier set by the petition originator, Reno Omokr.

At least 42,145 people have signed the petition whose new target is 50,000 signatures.

The petition, which was started by former aide on social media to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, wants the UK and EU to place a visa ban on El-rufai just as the United States which he claimed has banned the Kaduna governor from coming to the country.

Omokri had earlier got 5,000 people to sign an online petition calling for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe the bullion van that entered the premises of a former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu on the eve of the 2019 presidential election. The EFCC has not responded to the demand.

In the appeal for Nigerians to sign the petition, Omokri said: “Save Nigeria from evil leaders. Sign the petition calling on the UK government @10DowningStreet) and the @EU_Commission to follow the US lead and place a travel ban on @Elrufai, for actions against democracy and promoting genocide,” he said.

The online petition may be eligible for a response from the UK and EU once it reaches the final mark of 50,000 signatories.

El-ufai’s friends have also responded to the petition by starting a petition against Omokri, calling him an enemy of Nigeria who should be ban from UK and EU, and not El-rufai.

Nigerians are eagerly waiting what the next move would be like when the petition against El-rufai reaches the 50,000 mark. Would the EU and UK respond by acknowledging receipt of the petition? Or would they simply ignore? Whichever way the UK and EU respond will determine who wins between El-rufai and Omokri.
