Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi met with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed on Thursday at the Ramat House in Bauchi.
The purpose of the meeting was not immediately clear.
Obi finished third in the 2023 presidential election, which was won by former Lagos governor Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Tinubu secured victory in 12 of Nigeria’s 36 states and garnered 8,794,726 votes—nearly two million more than his closest rival, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Atiku, who has contested the presidency six times, received 6,984,520 votes, while Obi, who mobilised young voters in an unprecedented manner, secured 6,101,533. Despite finishing third, Obi won in 11 states, including Lagos—the home state of the APC candidate—and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Atiku also won in 12 states.
Former Kano State Governor and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso finished fourth, winning only his home state of Kano with 1,496,687 votes.
In the aftermath of the election, opposition parties have discussed forming a coalition to challenge the APC in 2027. Atiku has been seen with Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and other key political figures in anticipation of the next election.
Earlier this week, El-Rufai left the ruling APC for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing a departure from the party’s founding ideals.
