Super Eagles head coach, José Peseiro has cautioned his team against being complacent when they face Guinea-Bissau, warning that they may not defeat the visitors if they don’t give their all.

Nigeria on Friday evening will face Guinea-Bissau in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying fixture at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference in Abuja on Thursday, the Portuguese tactician said the visitors are not minnows and they have earned the right to be respected given that they qualified for AFCON in the past.

He went on to point out that they have already won one and drawn another of the two group matches they have played so far, insisting there are no longer easy games

Peseiro said, “Guinea-Bissau was at the last AFCON. They currently have four points after beating São Tomé and drawing with Sierra Leone.

“They are a team with good quality. They will try to defend here and rely on a counterattack. But it’s now left for us to put our commitments into the game.

“There are no easy matches and if we don’t give our maximum, we won’t beat Guinea-Bissau.“

Nigeria will secure nine points from 3 matches if they beat Guinea-Bissau. However, the visitors will be looking forward to causing an upset at the Abuja Stadium and topping the group.

The eagerly anticipated AFCON qualifier is expected to kick-off at 5pm.
