‘People deceiving people,’ Nigerians react as Obasanjo wears Tinubu’s signature cap, visits Remi Tinubu

By Ishaya Ibrahim

Within 48 hours, former President Olusegun Obasanjo wore the 8 signature cap of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and visited First Lady Remi Tinubu.

The 8 signature cap of Tinubu became popular during his re-election campaign for a second term as Lagos governor. It is not clear if by wearing the cap, Obasanjo is tacitly canvassing for a second term for the president.

Meanwhile, the two actions of the former president have elicited diverse reactions from Nigerians who wondered what the plan of the ex-President was.

Only last year in January, two months before the presidential election, Obasanjo endorsed Peter Obi.

Obasanjo had said at the time, “None of the contestants is a saint but when one compares their character, antecedent, their understanding, knowledge, discipline, and vitality that they can bring to bear and the great efforts required to stay focused on the job, particularly looking at where the country is today and with the experience on the job that I personally had, Peter Obi as a mentee has an edge.”

On X, Nigerians have been expressing divergent views on the recent actions of the ex-President.

@Mario9jaa said: “Obasanjo don go do Eid Day for Remi Tinubu side this afternoon. If we still have to explain what happened in 2023 to you, you don’t belong in politics.”

@Jagun_Labi1 said: “Days after wearing the Tinubu cap President Olusegun Obasanjo visits Remi Tinubu. Peter Obi and Obidients were used to reduce Atiku’s votes in the last election. 2+2 is 4. If you don’t use your brain in Nigeria we will use it for you. 2027 is another year.”

@directors008 said: “What makes OBJ to start this unforeseen romance with asiwaju is beyond ordinary eyes. I hope this serves as a lesson to all of us that wise politicians don’t have permanent enemies but permanent interests.”
