The main opposition party in the just concluded gubernatorial election in Ondo State, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) has reacted to the outcome of the poll.

TheNiche had earlier reported that the incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lucky Aiyadatiwa emerged victorious in all the 18 local government areas of the state, beating his closest rival, the PDP flagbearer, Agboola Ajayi with a landslide margin.

However, while reacting to APC’s victory, the PDP described the Ondo governorship election as the worst poll ever conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking via a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, PDP noted that it would be having a more detailed review of the election and its outcome.

He also promised that the party would take appropriate action in the defence of the country’s democracy.

“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP will be having a more detailed review of the election and its outcome and take appropriate action in the defence of our democracy,” he said.

The party further said the election in Ondo State fell short of all expectations and requirements of a free, fair and credible election.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary
added that Nigeria just witnessed the height of electoral swindling, deceit, and manipulation by the ruling APC.

He called the attention of Nigerians and the international community to what, he claimed, was witnessed in the election.

“This election witnessed widespread election merchandising, monetisation and barefaced vote buying by the APC and its apparatus in government to suppress the genuine aspiration of the people.

“We demand that serious action be taken to stem such if Nigeria’s democracy must survive,” Ologunagba added.
