The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has extended the sale of nomination forms for the Ekiti State governorship election.
PDP’s publicity secretary, Kola Ologbodiyan, said the party extended the closing date for the sale of the nomination forms for the Ekiti governorship election from October 14 to October 22.
According to the PDP’s spokesman, submission of the duly completed nomination forms has also been extended to October 29 instead of October 15.
Ologbodiyan also said screening of aspirants in the Ekiti governorship election primary would take place on November 8 at the National Secretariat of the PDP.
Also, the Ekiti screening appeals have been slated for November 29 for the aspirants whose nomination forms were duly submitted.
Ologodiyan said: “All aspirants, critical stakeholders and teeming members of our party, particularly in Ekiti State, are by this, be guided accordingly.”
The Ekiti State PDP has been split between the camp of former Governor Ayo Fayose and a senator representing the state in the National Assembly, Biodun Olujimi.
Fayose was governor of Ekiti State in 2003 until he was impeached in 2006. The impeachment was later nullified by a court. He later contested and won the governorship election of Ekiti State on the platform of the PDP, defeating an incumbent, Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress. But in the next election, Fayemi reclaimed the seat from the PDP. Since then, the PDP in Ekiti State has not been the same.
