Ace Nollywood actress Funke Akindele, popularly known as ‘Jenifa’, made the rounds on social media yesterday when several news outlets reported she emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate in Lagos.
According to reports, she emerged after beating a field that comprised former governorship aspirant, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, former Senatorial candidate for Lagos East, Yeye Shobajo, another governorship aspirant, David Kolawole Vaughan known as DAKOVA, and Engr. Teslim Balogun.
It was also learnt that the party’s Governorship Candidate in the state, Dr Abdul Azeez Olajide Adediran popularly known as Jandor, and the leadership of the party in the state, had settled for the popular thespian and that she would be unveiled soon
A picture of Jandor and Akindele later went viral on social media, suggesting the Nollywood actress might have truly clinched the position.

However, the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has debunked the claim, saying Jardon is yet to name the movie star as his running mate.
According to the Lagos PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr Hakeem Amode, the party is not aware of any running mate yet.
Amode also added that Jandor will soon announce his running mate without delay and everybody will know.
He said, “It is not in my place to announce who the running mate to our governorship candidate, Jandor, is. Let us wait for the candidate himself to announce.
“Has the candidate of the party announced anywhere that he has picked his own running mate?
“What you are reading online on this, is it from the candidate of the party?
“The candidate of the party will announce who his running mate is and he has not done that. We should wait for the official announcement,” Amode said
Meanwhile, TheNiche had earlier reported that the Lagos State PDP gubernatorial aspirant denied making the pronouncement.
“I haven’t chosen nor announced Funke Akindele as my running mate.
“However, that stage will come in due course when an official public announcement will be made,” he said.
