The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a meeting of its organs as stalement in talks between Governor Nyesom Wike’s faction and that of the presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar persists.

A statement by the Secretary of PDP Board of Trustees Adolphus Wabara stated the days of meeting of the respective organs.

“This is to inform members that the meetings of the organs of the PDP have been scheduled as follows:

“National Caucus: Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at the Akwa Ibom Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro by 7.00 p.m.

“Board of Trustees: Thursday, September 8, 2022 at the NEC Hall by 11.00 a.m.

“National Executive Committee: Thursday, September 8, 2022 at the NEC Hall by 2.00 p.m. Endeavor to attend, please,” the statement said.

Among other things, Wike and his allies, Governors Seyi Makinde, Okezie Ikpeazu and Samuel Ortom, want the resignation of PDP chairman Iyorchia Ayu if they would support Atiku in next year’s election.

Trouble began in Nigeria’s major opposition party after Atiku overlooked Wike in selecting a running mate. The former Vice President picked Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa instead.

Several PDP chieftains believe Wike was treated unfairly despite being the one who held the party together after the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari (All Progressives Congress) in 2015.

The growing influence of the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, who is a former member of the PDP, adds to the party’s misery.
