The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State has alleged that the agents of the All Progressive Congress (APC) were plotting to doctor the results of the forthcoming local government election in favor of the ruling party’s contenders.
The PDP, in a statement by its state Secretary, Suleiman Zhigun, assured that it would resist such plans by the APC in the state.
The party stated: “We discovered that the plans are in stages with first to print thousands of ballot papers to be given to APC members to thumb print and stuff ballot boxes on election day.
“The second plan, if the first fails, which it will, is to write results at their homes and force NSIEC officials to announce as the result of the elections which the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) has been rejected.”
Besides, the main opposition party advised the APC agents to discard such ideas, stressing that the PDP was prepared to protect the ballots and the results to the final announcement and to the declaration stage.
“Nigerlites are very much aware of the incompetence and failed administration the APC runs and are ready to give them the red card at the local government election scheduled for November 30th, 2019,” it stated.
Also, the PDP said that to ensure successful elections, it would match every action with double reaction, insisting, “because all the PDP wants is that APC and its agents allow NSIEC to conduct a transparent, free and fair election. Nothing more.”
It however
called on the NSIEC to remain steadfast in upholding its independence and integrity by not succumbing to the intimidation and rigging antics of the APC.
