Paul Scholes accuses Mikel Arteta of crowd incitement

Paul Scholes considered Arteta’s behaviour when the referee went to review the penalty awarded to Arsenal against United a ‘disgrace’

Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes has slammed Arsenal gaffer, Mikel Arteta for inciting the crowd during Arsenals’ 3-1 win over Manchester United.

He made the comment during his analysis of the match, which was monitored on Super Sports by TheNiche, calling the Gunners manager’s action a ‘disgrace’

Arsenal increased the gap between them and United to 6 points with the win and four games to go, they also recorded a back-to-back victory over Chelsea and The Red Devils within five days after losing three consecutive games.

Goals from Nuno Tavares, Bukayo Saka, and Granit Xhaka ensured that the Gunners condemned the visitors to the second defeat in a row.

It also put the North London side in the driving seat in their quest to finish fourth in the Premier League table and earn a Champions League place.

As referee Craig Pawson headed to the touchline to review Bukayo Saka’s penalty call, Arteta was seen remonstrating with the official and urging the home fans to put pressure on the referee

Scholes believes Arteta’s behaviour was unacceptable, out of order, and should not have a place in football. 

He said: “I think Arteta is a disgrace there. He shouldn’t be allowed to do that.

‘If you see it again, he actually goes to the crowd to try and influence the referee a little. All the players around them as well. That shouldn’t be allowed.”
