Paul Merson is backing Chelsea to get back to winning ways in the English Premier League(EPL), after drawing the last two home games against Burnley and United.

The former Gunner is also predicting a 3-1 victory for Chelsea in the clash that will be officiated by David Coote at Vicarage Road Stadium.

The south west London side head into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Jorginho made up for his howler, which resulted in Jadon Sancho’s opener, by slotting home a penalty, after Aaron Wan-Bissaka brought down Thiago Silva, in the penalty box.

The result takes Manchester City and Liverpool closer to the league leaders, as City are now one point away and the Reds just two points from Chelsea.

Chelsea takes on relegation-threatened Watford at home in a dangerous game, which both clubs cannot afford to lose for different reasons.

The 53-year-old Paul Merson looks into the game which he reckons would be tricky for the league leaders, but he is backing them to get the three points at stake.

Writing in his column for Sportskeeda, Merson said: “This is a dangerous game for Chelsea.

“Claudio Ranieri is not under much pressure at Watford. He knows the Premier League and with the way Watford play, Chelsea’s defense will be tested. Ranieri will open games up in the Premier League this season and you won’t see many draws with Watford’s brand of football.

“Chelsea dominated over the weekend, but Manchester United sat deep and didn’t give them any space. Timo Werner didn’t look like scoring, and I think Kai Havertz’s intelligence could play a big part against Watford.

“Mason Mount was also a huge miss against Manchester United – he should be playing this game. It’s only a matter of time before Chelsea go back to steamrolling opponents, and I’d back them to win this match.”

The Blues have a good record against fellow London club, Watford, having won the encounters 21 times, drawing 6 and losing 10, but Watford trashed United 4-1 on the same patch recently.

A slip up from Chelsea today could see them go as low as 3rd on the table if Man City beat Aston Villa and Liverpool triumph in the Merseyside derby against Everton.
