Pastor Adefarasin wife’s remarks on women dressing divides Nigerians

Nigerians on social media are reacting differently to a message by wife of the founder and senior pastor of House on the Rock, Paul Adefarasin, Ifeanyi, over comments she made in the church condemning ladies who dress indecently.

The video which is circulating on the internet shows Pastor Ifeanyi criticising ladies during a church service.

She said ladies who dress indecently do not show respect to God as they would not dress the same way to a job interview.

“I do not know why someone would wake up on Sunday morning and decide they want to wear tights to church. Are you going to a night club? You will not wear that if you were going to a job interview because there is a certain decorum expected,” she said.

Some social media users said Pastor Ifeanyi’s words were not wrong but too extreme as she could have passed the same message in a more subtle manner.

“I think Pastor Ifeanyi wasn’t exactly wrong but should have addressed it in a better way. She objectified the women in her church who wear short dresses as people who are seeking for attention from the men, as opposed to positioning themselves as wife materials. Insulting actually.”  @theugonna said.

Another twitter user said, those insulting Pastor Ifeanyi because she told them to quit indecent dressing are evil.

“If you disagree and insult pastor Ifeanyi for telling you to dress well to church that means you consciously know that what you are doing is evil,” @universalbigb said.

Young Ògògó (@akintonmide) said, he sees nothing wrong with Pastor Ifeanyi’s message. He, however, said the issue is with adults who do not want to accept correction.

“I just watched the videos of Pastor Ifeanyi and I can’t see one thing wrong in the message. The problem is still that adults (who should act like one) do not like being reprimanded or told to act right. If you cannot dress appropriately to church, perhaps stay at home.”

While, Crisscross Africa (@crisscrosafrica) said Pastor Ifeanyi needs to check the kind of words she uses, because such words could kill the interest of members.

“Pastor Ifeanyi’s words were a bit too harsh. Words like the ones she used in this video are capable of killing the spirit of any unmarried young girl who’s just trying to help in the church, because she loves God. She needs to step down the tongue lashing a little bit.”
