Ghanaian international, Thomas Partey, has said the competition between him and Jorginho in the Arsenal midfield is a good development, as it will ultimately make them better.

Arsenal host Brighton at the Emirates on Sunday and the north London club will be hoping to earn a third win on the bounce in their quest to leapfrog the league leaders, Man City.

Although the Citizens are firm favourites to win the league, the title is still up for grabs and the Gunners will need to win against the Seagulls to ensure they can take advantage of any slip-up.

Brighton are hardly an easy team to beat though, having impressed under Roberto De Zerbi this campaign and currently pushing for a place in Europe.

Mikel Arteta has a selection headache ahead of the fixture, as he ponders on whether to stick with Jorginho or bring Partey back into the team.

Jorginho who was bought from Chelsea in January has started Arsenal’s previous two wins, winning  the ‘man of the match’ award in the impressive win over Newcastle.

However, speaking on Arsenal’s official website ahead of the Brighton clash, Partey believes the competition between him and the Italian can only improve the team.

He said: “The competition is very good as anytime you don’t do well, someone can take your place. It pushes every player to be on top, so I think you have more chance of getting the best out of every player with rotation, and I believe it’s part of the game.

“We have to stick together and put our minds on one objective. In football, you have to always be ready to be at the top and I think the mentality of this squad is that we have to try and finish as high as possible.

“We have to get better and push ourselves to get the best out of each other as that will make the team stronger, and keep fighting for everything that we want.”
