Paris 2024 Olympics: Nnadozie dreams victory as Super Falcons face Brazil test

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie believes the team can emulate the 1996 Atlanta Olympics heroics of the Nigerian U-23 team by winning gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The Super Falcons will begin their campaign Thursday against Brazil in group C, also featuring Spain and Japan.

The Super Falcons, coached by Randy Waldrum, are returning to the Olympics for the first time in 16 years, and need to start well against the Brazilians who are still searching for their first Olympic gold in the history of their participation.

“We are not just going there to participate, we can even win it – nothing is impossible,” goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who plays her club football in the French capital, told BBC Sport Africa.

“We have everything it takes to go to the Olympics and get a gold medal. We have a better team now and we can do great things.”

The Super Falcons themselves best appearance at the Olympics was in Athens 2004 when they reached the quarter-final but lost to Germany.

The Super Falcons reached the World Cup knockout stage for only the third time last year, suffering penalty shootout heartbreak against eventual runners-up England, but Nnadozie believes the nine-time African champions are greatly improved under American coach Randy Waldrum.

“With the kind of football we are playing now, we are going to conquer the world soon,” she added
