Oyebanji seals filling stations selling petrol at N600

In his determination to halt the hoarding and arbitrary increase of fuel pump price by filling stations in Ekiti State, following the inaugural speech of President Bola Tinubu on Monday on subsidy, the Ekiti State governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has ordered the sealing of filling stations selling above the official pump price.
Consequently, the Ekiti State Special Task Force on Petroleum Products headed by Mr. Israel Adesokan on Tuesday evening sealed Eltayon Nigeria Limited filling station beside Access bank, Bank road Ado-Ekiti for selling petrol at N600 per litre and hoarding the product from consumers.
Earlier in the day, Governor Biodun Oyebanji had warned filling stations and marketers in the state against hoarding of petroleum products following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s inaugural speech on Monday.
The governor had urged the marketers to await further directives on the implementation of the planned subsidy removal by the Federal Government and avoid actions that are capable of inflicting hardship on the citizens.
In a release signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, the governor had warned of heavy sanctions awaiting any filing station or marketer found hoarding petroleum products or involved in arbitrary increase in prices of petroleum product in the state.
Meanwhile, Governor Oyebanji is scheduled to have a meeting with the leadership of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) in his office by 4pm today.
The Governor urges the citizens of the state to go about their daily activities peacefully and avoid any rancorous situation.
