Pictures of NYSC adhoc staff of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), sleeping out in the open and abandoned vehicles have drawn outrage from Nigerians on social media.

Some of them were seen hurdled into tight spaces, parked and abandoned vehicles while others slept on open spaces littered with filth.

The NYSC members complained of neglect and abandonment. According to them, they are offered N35,000 for the job and would be only be given to them on completion of the task.

They said INEC asked them to transport themselves to their various places of assignment with their own money.

Following the postponement of the February 16 elections, Nigerians are asking the electoral body why they would keep the NYSC members in such abject conditions.

“Dear @inecnigeria, Please URGENTLY do something about any stranded NYSC members. Food and transport, to be specific. You have the capacity to handle it so the quicker the better. Communicate as you act”, one Braid said on Twitter.

The NYSC is yet to comment on the issue, but Nigerians said they are expecting that it does.

“I expect NYSC to condemn this nonsense and do better in the future by engaging INEC about the welfare of the corpers. Be assure provisions were made for accommodation and their feeding. Same happened to us in 2011 when I was a corper,no food we slept in the cold open space,” Tosin Olugbenga said.
