Our focus, end of insurgency, rescue of 219 Chibok girls — BBOG Group

-

The #BringBackOurGirls (BBOG) group has said that inasmuch as its focus was the safe return of the 219 Chibok girls, it was particular with the need for the end of insurgency because it is the insurgency that had brought about the abduction of the schoolgirls and many other Nigerians.

Speaking during the normal sit-out of the group, its Coordinator Abubakar Yusuf urged the military to see that the December deadline for the end to insurgency was achieved adding that the group will always support the Nigerian military in its effort to end insurgency and rescue the abducted girls.

Meanwhile, the group has also urged the government to put the interest of Nigerians in mind in deciding portfolios that would be given to the already screened ministers.

The group which expressed hope that the President will do the right things for Nigerians, urged the ministers to work towards the development of the country and bring about the change needed in the country.

“The ministers and other officeholders should always act to the best of their ability. They should always have the interest of the country at heart. We need a country that works and can only do that when those in power work for the betterment of the country,” it said.

Speaking on the purported merging of some ministries, the group who had always advocated for the right of the girl-child urged the government to create an environment of equal playing ground for both men and women in the country.

“Segregation causes a lot of problems. It makes people think you need a special type of attention. The thing is you don’t even need that attention. Women have greater roles to play in the development of any nation. We expect women that are given offices to perform the best they could. They don’t want to be seen as special but equal with the men,” it said.

Also speaking, one of its members, Fatai Abiodun urged the government to put greater attention to Information Communication Technology (ICT) adding that ICT will lead Nigeria into becoming one of the world’s powerful countries like China.
