The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday said its strategies towards combating the troubling crime of traffic robbery in the state have started yielding results.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, DSP Joe Offor, said the law enforcement agency recently arrested some perpetrators of the dastardly act.
He said, “After a distress call by a victim of motor traffic robbery at Osborne, Ikoyi, on November 2, 2015 at about 1800hrs which was promptly responded to by a team of Anti-Robbery Squad stationed at Ikoyi Police Division, the patrol team arrested Owolabi Oyewumi, Lekan Azeez and Afolarin from whom one motorcycle was recovered.”
He furthers, “Also on the 3rd November, 2015, the Tactical Operational Point (TOP) mounted by the operatives of Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) accosted two motorcycles with two occupants each moving menacingly at Iyana Oba Bus-Stop.
Immediately the operatives forced the motorcycles to a halt, all the occupants jumped into the swamps abandoning the motorcycles and bags which when opened led to the recovery of the following items: Two motorcycles, one Pump Action gun, two live cartridges, 22 handsets, one laptop and a cam-coder camera.”
He added that the owners of some of the recovered properties have identified themselves for possible collection while the effort is on to track down the fleeing hoodlums.
“We therefore reiterate our earlier assurance to Lagosians of our unwavering determination to put measures that will guarantee safety of life and property, especially this Yuletide period. Police is your friend and helper,” Offor ended.
