Osun hotelier, Adedoyin, 2 others appeal death sentence

Adedoyin and two others in May, were sentenced to death by an Osun court for killing a student of OAU, Timothy Adegoke

Embattled educationist, businessman and owner of Hilton Hotels, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Dr Ramon Adedoyin, and two of his staff who were convicted of murder recently by a state high court have filed an appeal against the verdict. 

TheNiche reported that Justice Oyebola Ojo, the Chief Judge of Osun State, on Tuesday, May 30, sentenced Adedoyin and two others to death by hanging for the murder of a postgraduate student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Timothy Adegoke, who was killed in their hotel.

They were sentenced along with four other staff of the hotel who got various judgements after they were all docked on an 18-count charge, which included conspiracy to commit murder and unlawful killing.

However, after they were all sentenced, Adedoyin and two of his staff who were sentenced to death have now appealed the judgment of the Osun State High Court. 

Confirming the appeal, one of Adedoyin’s lawyers, Muhydeen Adeoye, during an interview with The PUNCH on Thursday, June 15, said:  

“We have filed an appeal against the judgment of Osun State High Court. The appeal was filed before the Court of Appeal, Akure.”

Prior to this development, the widow of the deceased who was murdered, Bolatito Adegoke had applauded the judgement and the trial judge before going on to say she was offered money to withdraw the case.

According to her, she was advised to accept the sum of N71 million and withdraw the case against her husband’s killers but she rejected it.  

She further alleged that she was not the only one who was approached, saying her brother-in-law was also given an offer to discontinue the murder case.
