Osimhen catches up with Odegbami after Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Benin Republic in Cote d’Ivoire

Osimhen, who currently plays in the Turkish league, is now 14 goals away from leveling up with Nigeria’s highest goal scorer, Rashidi Yekini

Galatasaray forward, Victor Osimhen has drawn level with legendary winger, Segun Odegbami, in the list of Nigeria’s all-time top scorers after ensuring Super Eagles avoided a defeat in a game against Benin Republic on Thursday night. 

Nigeria held Benin Republic to a 1-1 draw in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier played at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

The Super Eagles went down as early as the 16th minute of the game after Mohamed Tijani headed through the legs of Stanley Nwabali.

But Osimhen, who is currently on loan in Turkey from Serie A club, Napoli, headed in the equalizer in the 81st minute.

Augustine Eguavoen’s side with the score draw went on to seal the top spot in Group D courtesy of the goal.

This means Osimhen now has 23 goals, the same number as Odegbami.

The 26-year-old striker came into the qualifying match against Benin in third place with 22 goals.

He is now 14 goals away from catching up with Nigeria’s highest goal scorer, Rashidi Yekini.
