Former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has decided to mend fences with Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin by asking for his forgiveness for any past wrongs during his tenure as the first citizen of the state.

The senator representing Edo North senatorial district in the red chamber begged for the forgiveness of his sins on Saturday, during a goodwill message he gave at Igbinedion’s 90th birthday celebration in Benin, the Edo State capital.

He further added  that he wouldn’t have emerged as the winner of the election which brought him to power without his support.

Speaking at the event, Oshiomhole said, “I have always looked for one opportunity to say to the Esama of the universe that I am sorry for any of the things that I said knowingly or unknowingly or any of the things that I did that a son should never have done to a father.

“On your 90th birthday, I ask for your forgiveness, and I pray that you grant it.

“I want to publicly acknowledge your support for me in 2007 and 2008, without which I might never have become the governor of Edo State.”

Following the public apology, Nigerians who reacted on social media suggested that the move was to seek support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the September 21 governorship election in the state.

Oshiomhole has been building bridges to ensure that the APC candidate, Monday Okpebholo is elected next governor of the state.
