Ondo government moves to protect forest reserves, considers Forestry Regenerating Fund

Ondo state government says it will continue to keep watch on its forest reserves and will not allow intruders to encroach.

Ondo State government has initiated moves to protect its forest reserves and make them viable by considering the ”Forestry Regenerating Fund ” to fortify it.

The move was commended by the participants at a 0ne Day Carbon Trade Seminar Workshop organized by the 0ndo state UN-REDD Project.

The participants applauded the Akeredolu administration for being the first in government to consider a ”Regenerating Fund” for its forestry reserves.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Hon. Oyeniyi Oseni while speaking at the seminar said the issue of Carbon Emissions from the forestry sector needs to be given deserving attention because of its overall impact on human lives.

He also shared his experience in the Carbon credit market describing it as a worthwhile investment.

However, the guest speakers at the seminar, Barrister Adeshina and Mr Thony Attah both emphasized that about 15–20% of all global Carbon dioxide emissions come from forest deforestation.

Earlier, in their addresses, Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon 0Layato Aribo and his counterpart in the Ministry of Environment, Hon Sunday Akinwalere in their separate remarks said the Ondo state government will continue to keep watch on its forest reserves and will not allow intruders to encroach.

Other participants at the seminar also called on government and other stakeholders to consider rural household settings in their forest management
