Super Eagles centre-back, Kenneth Omeruo, has ruled out any possibility of retiring from international football despite lack of playing time at the just concluded  2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.

He made this known while speaking with journalists shortly after the Super Eagles’ arrival in Abuja to meet with President Bola Tinubu.

Omeruo was a bit-part player for the Super Eagles at the AFCON with head coach, Jose Peseiro sticking with a back three consisting of Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey and Semi Ajayi for the majority of their games.

The 30-year-old managed to make five appearances during the AFCON, coming on in the dying minutes in all the matches, except the last group game against Guinea-Bissau where he started.

However, despite scarce opportunities, when asked about his plans for the future, Omeruo made it clear that he is not calling time on his international career anytime soon adding that he would be available when called upon.

The former Chelsea player said: “My focus now is going back, continue playing regularly for my club and be available if called upon.”

Super Eagles failed to lift Nigeria’s fourth AFCON title after losing to hosts, Cote d’Ivoire in the final of the tournament.

After returning to Nigeria with the silver medal, they were hosted by the President at the Council Chambers of the State House and conferred with Nigeria’s National honor of Member of the Order of Nigeria (MON).

Each player was also given a completed flat and land in a yet-to-be-disclosed location in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
