Nigerian music star Omah Stanley Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, has inadvertently disagreed with veteran singer Innocent Idibia, aka 2Face, claiming that the Afrobeats genre is declining, especially in Western countries.
Omah Lay made this known on Thursday night while speaking at his Lagos Warehouse Session.
His assertion on Afrobeats comes after 2Face allayed fears that the genre might be heading into oblivion on the global stage.
While addressing the concern during a recent interview with Yaw on Wazobia FM Lagos, the ‘African Queen’ crooner expressed confidence that Afrobeats will not fall off.

He said, “Afrobeats can never die. If you listen to some of the young Afrobeats artists now, you will agree with me that the genre is in safe hands.”
However, Omah Lay seemingly differs, saying the massive reception Afrobeats received abroad a few years ago has begun to dwindle.
“Overseas, Afrobeats is declining. It is fact. Our artists are doing really great but the Afrobeats that you guys used to know in 2020-2024 is not the Afrobeats you know now anymore,” he said.
He further revealed that he has been studying his idols and looking for a means to revive the Nigerian music scene.
He also said his music is going to make a lot of his colleagues improve their craft and restore Afrobeats’ global momentum.
