Olisa Adibua absolves self from ‘Lagos Loves Damini’ concert’s failure

Olisa Adibua denied being part of the show organisers, saying he only helped with crafting the concert theme, securing artistes and ticket sales

Nigerian media personality, Olisa Adibua, has refuted claims that he was part of those who organised the ‘Lagos Love Damini’ concert, following criticism that greeted the hosting of the event.

According to the organisers of the event, WondaX, the sold-out concert attracted over 30,000 fans who all trooped out to see various Nigerian artistes.

Burna Boy headlined the concert which was held on the 1st of January 2023 at the Eko Energy City Lagos and the ‘Last Last ” crooner was expected to start performing at 6 pm.  

The show, however, turned out to be a disappointing one for fans, who had waited for over 8 hours for Burna Boy who didn’t show up until 3 am. 

These aggrieved fans took to social media, to blame the poor organization on Burna Boy’s condescending behavior.

Burna Boy later issued an apology note to the angry fans, saying contrary to the belief that he stood them up, he arrived early for the show, but he couldn’t perform due to the organizer’s failure to put the proper sound technicalities in place.

In the statement, he put out on Instagram, the Grammy Awards winner, pinned the service failure at the show on a number of people, which included WondaX and Olisa Adibua.

Reacting to the accusation, Olisa Adibua in a post on his Instagram page stated that he was only contacted by a company to help secure artists for their December events.

He also revealed that Burna Boy was among the artists he was hired to secure and that he also helped with crafting the concert theme and with ticket sales.

He wrote, “To whom it may concern, yesterday was woken up by a barrage of phone calls and messages and my attention was drawn, to the media statement posted on Burna Boy’s pages concerning the Lagos Loves Damini Concert that took place at Wonderland, Eko Atlantic Energy City, on Sunday, New Year’s day.

“Ordinarily, I would ignore such statements, however, members of my team have urged me to clarify my role in the entire project.

“About 3-4 months ago, was contacted by a company called Creative Economy Catalyst (CEC) and was asked to help secure artistes for the December activities, at wonderland, Eko Atlantic Energy City One of such artiste was Burna Boy and for over two and a half months, was in contact and conversation with Burna Boy’s management team.

“In the lead-up to the concert at the Elio Energy City, my role was to liaise with Burna Boy’s management team and aid the partnership in time for the event.

“The contract for the ‘Lagos Loves Damini’ Show was eventually signed last month in December”

He, however, denied being part of the organisers, claiming that what transpired at the concert was only related to him by third parties because he didn’t attend the event.

“Between Spaceship and the Creative Catalyst Company. Kindly note, am not a director, partner, or shareholder of either company.

“I was never invited to, nor did attend any production meeting for the show. My only other input was to suggest a name for the show and to assist with ticket sales.

“Over the past few decades, have produced and co-produced some of the biggest events across the African continent and in other parts of the world. My experience and expertise in curating, producing. and executing events are second to none. Have been friends with Buma Boy and his family for many years and we will be friends for life. will also like to thank them for agreeing to do the show in the first place.

“Also note, whatever transpired at the concert on the night of Sunday, January 1st, had no input or control over it, as I did not attend the concert. All of the information have received so far, on what transpired at the event has been from third parties.” Olisa Adibua added.
