The Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has warned Nigerians to be wary of a fake video of her currently trending on social media, insisting that she only posts on X (formerly Twitter).
She issued the warning in a public alert, stating that a fake, AI-manipulated video of her is currently circulating online.
According to Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance, the video—which falsely uses her image—is not authentic and is being investigated by the relevant authorities.
She urged the general public to remain vigilant and avoid being duped by fraudsters.
“Just alerting Nigerians. Another fake AI-manipulated video. The authorities are handling it. I just wanted to alert you to be aware of this,” she said.
Okonjo-Iweala further reiterated that she does not operate accounts on popular social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp, stressing that any content appearing there under her name is fraudulent.
“As I have repeatedly said, I never post anything on Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp. Anything emanating from these sources with my image is not from me. I only post on Twitter/X. I just don’t want people to be duped,” she added.
