.Tell Nigerian govt: You are not doing enough to protect Nigerians

Nigeria’s oil workers under the aegis of NUPENGASSAN have said that the Federal Government of Nigeria was not doing enough in tackling insecurity in the country.

In a joint press conference, the leadership of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (PENGASSAN), and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), said that the government should have long changed its strategy.

It alleged that the government was doing a particular thing in the same way, which it lamented was not working.

President of PENGASSAN, Comrade Ndukaku Michael Ohaeri, and his colleague at NUPENG, Comrade Williams Akporeha, spoke in Lagos.

“The government needs to change hands in whatever we are seeing in the security that is not working. They need to look inwards to check what is good enough.

“We recognize that our government is trying its best. But we feel they can do more. Their best is not good. We in the oil and gas sector expect more from them,” the group stated.

The union leaders however pointed out that insecurity was the major challenge plaguing the country and if not tackled, every other thing like infrastructural development and investments would remain unrealised dreams.

NUPENGASSAN also stated that its members were now targets for the bandits and called on the federal government to act fast in securing its members and the entire nation as workers were now afraid of going to work.

“Our workers are now afraid of going to work because we have become targets of these bandits together with our children, wives and loved ones.

“We can no longer sleep with our eyes closed. Recently, one of our colleagues was killed in the presence of his wife along Okigwe road.

“Government must wake up with their responsibilities and tackle the issue because the level of crime has passed alarming rate.

“Our sole aim is to collaborate with the leaders to move the country forward and secure the country. That is why we are joining other voices in raising alarm on the issue of security,” the group said.
