Odinkalu to Wike: ‘You’re liable, assets in name of your wife, children concern you’

-

Odinkalu to Wike: “The #DrunkenGlutton has clearly not read the #AssetDeclaration rules or he should know that assets in the name of his wife and children since 2008 concern him because they should be declared. By the way, how old were his children in 2008? His singing has only begun….”

Former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Professor Chidi Odinkalu, has faulted Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike for downplaying the implication of his wife and children owning undeclared assets abroad.

The West African Weekly had in August cited public available documents showing that a  property located at 113 Spring Creek Lane, Winter Springs, Florida, was in the name of Wike’s wife, Justice Eberechi Wike, and their three  children – Joaquin, Jazmyne and Jordan.  The report was later amplified by Sahara Reporters published by radical politician, Omoyele Sowore.

In his defence, Wike said the property in question wasn’t his, but a gift to his wife from her family. He then accused Sowore of accepting a bribe to make it seem like he was the owner of the property.

“Sowore was bribed to lie against me. I have no house in America. The property was a gift to my wife from her family. My wife and children are Americans. I don’t even like going to America,” Wike told Channels Television during a two-hour interview last week.

But Odinkalu says Wike is liable per Nigerian Assets Declaration Rules because even if a property is in the name of his wife and children (minors), they must be declared.

He said via his X handle on Thursday: “The #DrunkenGlutton has clearly not read the #AssetDeclaration rules or he should know that assets in the name of his wife and children since 2008 concern him because they should be declared. By the way, how old were his children in 2008? His singing has only begun….”
