The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission, (ODIEC) has announced December 16, 2023, for the conduct of local government elections in the state.
It was gathered that training of Adhoc staff will hold between November 23 to December 1, 2023.
Chairman of ODIEC, Prof Yomi Dinakin who made this known today in Akure, the state capital while speaking with newsmen said the early announcement of the election was to afford all parties to make adequate preparation for the election.
According to him, the announcement was in line with the provisions of Section 28 (1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 which stipulates not later than 360 days before the election.

He went on: “We are working in line with Electoral Act provisions so as to avoid litigation”
“ODIEC will continue to provide to ensure that local government elections are conducted in a credible and acceptable manner.
“ODIEC will meet with stakeholders and political parties for the release of the election guidelines.
“The conduct of party primaries by political parties and observation by the commission holds between April 10th to June 10th, 2023 while campaign starts by July 17th and ends midnight of December 14th 2023,” he added.
Earlier, the ODIEC Commissioner in charge of media and Publicity, Mr Rotimi Olorunfemi informed newsmen that the publication of a list of validated candidates for chairmanship and councillorship elections will be done on July 17, 2023.
