Odegbami confident Super Eagles can secure World Cup ticket via playoffs

Nigeria football legend, Segun Odegbami, has expressed optimism that the Super Eagles will qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup via the playoffs.

​He made this known while discussing the Super Eagles’ 4-0 walloping of the Benin Republic in their last group fixture of the World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

​Victor Osimhen scored a hat-trick as the three-time African champions ended a difficult qualifying campaign on a high.

Following the crucial victory, the Super Eagles finished as one of the best runners-up in Africa.

Nigeria will now join the likes of Gabon, Congo DR, and Cameroon in a mini-tournament.

​Speaking on the Super Eagles’ chances of advancing to the 2026 World Cup, Odegbami, who was a member of Nigeria’s historic 1980 Africa Cup of Nations-winning side, said the national team has a good chance of making it to the tournament.

​He said, “We did very well. I am happy with the boys, and I think we deserved to win, and we won very well, and we now have an opportunity to qualify. I think we have a very good chance to qualify from these play-offs to make it to the World Cup.
