Oborevwori mourns demise of ex-NUPENG Gen Sec, Frank Kokori

Oborevwori described Kokori’s death as a “monumental loss” not just to Deltans and Nigerians, but to the entire world

Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has mourned the passing away of former General Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Chief Frank Kokori.

TheNiche on Thursday reported that Kokori, who hailed from Ovu in Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state, gave up the ghost on his birthday.

Speaking on the death of the fiery labour leader in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Festus Ahon, Oborevwori commiserated with his family, the people of Ovu community and the Urhobo nation. 

He described Kokori’s passing as a “monumental loss” not just to NUPENG, Deltans and Nigerians, but to the entire world, adding that he fought gallantly for the people.

“As a bastion of inspiration, labour icon and a man of great political depth and insight, as well as a leader of leaders, he contributed immensely to the development of our state and country throughout his lifetime,” the governor said.

He went on to describe the deceased as a well-respected elder statesman and an illustrious Deltan and recalled his visit to him on his sick bed in Warri.

Kokori, since October, has been on a sick bed at Mount Horeb Clinic, Warri, over kidney-related challenges.

He, however, recently cried out, lamenting how NUPENG and the government had abandoned him to his fate.

Following Kokori’s distress call on Thursday, November 9, Governor Oborevwori visited the elder statesman a day later and picked up his bills.
