Obidients have expressed concern over the “reckless attack” on Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) – who contested against Bola Tinubu in the 2023 vote – and they have alerted fellow citizens to hold the President responsible if the threats against Obi should lead to him being harmed.

The Obidient Moement is particularly upset about recent comments made on Arise Television by All Progressives Congress (APC) National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka.

Morka’s comments implied that Obi has “crossed the line” and will face consequences, interpreted by the Obidient Movement as a direct threat to Obi’s life and a signal of Nigeria’s descent into authoritarianism under Tinubu.

The movement demanded to know what specific statements or actions by Obi justified Morka’s allegations and what authority he has to draw such a line.

Obidients also sought to know what exactly Morka means by “what’s coming to” Obi and accused Tinubu of choosing repression over dialogue and intimidation over engagement.

“We categorically state that if any harm befalls Mr Peter Obi, his family, or anyone associated with him, the Nigerian government and its agents will be held directly responsible,” the movement said in statement, per reporting by Nigerian Tribune.

The statment urged Nigerians and the international community to take note of the pattern of threats and intimidation adopted by the APC and to hold those in power accountable.

And it asked the security services to take Morka’s comments seriously and to investigate the matter.

Obi denies ‘crossing the line,’ says he can’t be silenced by Tinubu’s ‘authoritarian regime’

Obi on Monday denied crossing any line as alleged by Morka who accused him of making absurd accusations against the APC and its supporters.

Morka claimed that Obi crossed the line and is “way too sanctimonious” and needs to relax and let his lawyers handle his case at the tribunal.

But Obi denied the charge and stood his ground that he would not be silenced by an administration that has become authoritarian.

His words: “Have I really crossed the line? I ask the question because my New Year message has now led to threats against my life, my family, and those around me.

“While I have received all sorts of messages, one Mr. Felix Morka has gone further to accuse me of “crossing the line” and has warned that I will face the consequences.

“I find it necessary to share this message again and urge everyone who has not seen it to watch: https://youtube.com/watch?v=waGknJG2K44… If I have truly crossed the line, I invite anyone to point it out, as I remain committed to upholding decorum.

“However, I will not be silenced in my resolve to speak truthfully, especially as our nation continues to drift toward undemocratic practices.

“We are increasingly transforming into an authoritarian and repressive regime, where freedom of expression is being systematically suppressed. May God help us create a better and freer society for the sake of our children.”
