Obiano is the governor of Anambra State. His party faces a tough contest even when it fields highly cerebral Soludo as its candidate
Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano and his wife Ebelechukwu have cast their ballots in the ongoing governorship election in the state.
The governor arrived at his polling unit at around 9:28 am on Saturday at Eri Primary School, Unit 004, Otuocha 1, Aguleri, Anambra East LGA.
After casting his vote, Obiano said he was impressed with the voter turnout. He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the exercise and says that he is hopeful that his party will win the day.

“I am very happy to have exercised my civic responsibility. I want to ask all Anambra citizens wherever they are to come out en masse and vote. We can see everywhere is peaceful, and that is the way it is across the state,” he said.
Obiano had accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of manipulating the outcome of the election even before it commenced.
In a statement signed by Anambra Commissioner for information, Don Adinuba, said the APC plans to write the results for 10 local governments.
“APC operatives are relying on compromised Independent National Electronic Commission (INEC) officials, who smuggled out the result sheets of a number of polling units two nights ago and the result sheets of some LGAs last night, to accept and announce the results, regardless of authentic results submitted by INEC officials electronically.
“They plan to capitalize on the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has yet to assent to the new Electoral Bill which makes electronic voting mandatory to perpetuate the fraud.”
Election stats
The elections will hold in 5,640 polling units across the 21 Local Governments and 326 wards of Anambra State
Anambra originally has 4,608 polling units, but INEC created an additional 1,112 for the purpose of this election. 86 polling units have no registered voters; hence, elections won’t be taking place there.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says 2,525,471 registered voters would be participating in the election.
Security deployment
The Nigerian Police Force deployed announced that it would deploy more than 34,000 personnel outside those serving in the state for the election.
Apart from the police, the military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service and other paramilitary agencies deployed personnel for the election.
