The Senator Andy Uba Governorship Campaign Organisation (SAUGCO), has berated the Anabra State Governor, Willie Obiano, for ducking his role as the state’s chief security officer.
A statement by Victor Afam Ogene, the director of media and publicity for the campaign organization, says Obiano should shake off his lethargy and frontally confront the worsening insecurity in the state.
The statement reads: “Only two days ago, we had cause to cry out over the spate of violence unleashed on our dear state, but little did we know that the situation would degenerate into the current state of anomie that we live in.
“Sad and worrisome as the situation is, our governor is nowhere to be found. He’s neither speaking to the people nor taking any measure, kinetic or non-kinetic, to arrest the ugly spectacle of bloodletting.
“Governor Obiano, as the sitting Chief Security Officer of Anambra state cannot abdicate just yet. Until his tenure runs out on March 17, 2022, the security and welfare of ndi Anambra are his primary responsibility.
“Leaving the state, and its people under the menacing reign of non-state actors is, therefore, unacceptable.
“Only yesterday, we witnessed an increase in the orgy of senseless killings across various parts of the state, with Dr. Chike Akunyili, widower of our late icon, Professor Dora Akunyili, eliminated in broad daylight at Nkpor, alongside his driver and police orderly.
“In at least four other isolated incidents in a single day, the gunmen freely operated, attacking vehicles, shooting hapless citizens and injuring others as they scampered for safety.
“As a matter of fact, while we go about selling our message of inclusiveness to the grassroots – at grave risks to our personal well-being, Governor Obiano appears to be comfortable with the open boasts of APGA members that there would be no elections; a message that seems to be in sync with the stance of the unknown gunmen.
“While we concede that there is no society that exists without crime and criminals, we however insist that it is the duty of government to rein in such outlaws, halt their nefarious activities and bring them to book.
“Sadly, in the Anambra scenario, mum remains the word, as our governor, Willy Obiano, appears to have been overwhelmed by the ugly situation.”
