Obi wins Abuja as Tinubu, Atiku, fail to get 25 per cent

Obi won four of the six area councils in Abuja, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Tinubu of APC who won the remaining two with 190815 votes

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has been declared the winner of the presidential election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Obi polled 281,717 votes to beat his closest rivals, Bola Tinubu of the ruling APC and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP who scored 90,902 and 74,199 votes respectively.

The Federal Capital Territory has six area councils—Gwagwalada, Abaji, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Bwari and Abuja Municipal.

The LP candidate secured 59 per cent of the total votes cast, Tinubu came second with 19 per cent, while Atiku got 15 per cent. 

This means the candidates of the APC and PDP were unable to score 25 per cent of the votes in the Nigerian capital.

Obi’s largest victory was in Abuja Municipal (AMAC), where he secured over 70 per cent of the votes cast and defeated his closest challenger with over 140,000 votes.

A total of 1526902 voters registered to vote in Abuja and 478923 voters were accredited. The number of valid votes stood at 460071 while 18581 votes were rejected.
