Obi, in a now viral-tweet, hailed the fighting spirit of the Super Eagles, saying ‘Today was yet another victorious outing for Nigeria’
Prominent Nigerians have taken to social media to hail the Super Eagles following their hard fought victory over the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Wednesday night.
TheNiche had earlier reported that the Nigerian team qualified for the final after defeating South Africa 4-2 in a penalty shootout.
Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali saved two penalties, before Kelechi Iheanacho scored his spot kick to earn Nigeria a place in 2023 AFCON finals, after the match had ended in a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.

With the win, Jose Peseiro’s men will now jostle for the tournament’s trophy with hosts, Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday.
Reacting to the victory, Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, commended the ‘fighting spirit’ of the Super Eagles.
Taking to his X, page, Obi tweeted: “Today was yet another victorious outing for Nigeria as our National Team, the Super Eagles displayed great fighting spirit, beating the Bafana Bafana of South Africa to take Nigeria to the finals in the ongoing AFCON games.”
Similarly, the World Trade Organization, (WTO) Director General, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who has earlier charged the Nigerian players to go for the brook tweeted: “We got it done!! Our very own
@NGSuperEagles did it. Congratulations!! You have put a smile on all our faces.
“Let me also congratulate our South African brothers in @BafanaBafana for a valiant showing. Let’s now march forward.”
On his part, the Lagos governorship candidate for Labour Party in the March 18, 2023 elections, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivo wrote: “Indeed, they ran and never went weary. neither did they faint. The Super Eagles fought like warriors and did our country proud. Senior man!! you’ve done well.
“On a lighter note, with the way my chest was pounding, may we not experience heartbreak at this age o.”
Also congratulating the boys, Nigerian football legend, Nwankwo Kanu tweeted: “KAN U believe this? What a feeling……The super eagles are in great spirits. Ready to fly to the finals. #afcon2023 We dey here.”
