Obi links insecurity in northern Nigeria to poverty

Obi while visiting a Muslim community in Anambra urged govt to address poverty through education and youth empowerment.

Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has linked the rising insecurity in the Northern part of Nigeria to “poverty”.

He made this known while joining the Muslim community in Awka, the capital of Anambra State to break Ramadan fast.

Obi during the visit added that to resolve the security crisis affecting the nation, government at all levels must address poverty through education and youth empowerment.

He further stressed that Nigerians, regardless of religion, share common aspirations for a peaceful and prosperous nation.

Speaking during the visit, Obi said, “The criminality you see in the North is because of poverty. We need to fix poverty and invest in education to tackle these issues.”

He also promised that he’ll continue supporting the Muslim community in Anambra State and assist them to rebuild a primary school within its  mosque.

Responding, the National Deputy Director General of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Gidado Siddiki, commended Obi for his consistent support, including donations for mosque renovations and sponsoring community members for Hajj.

During the visit, the former Anambra State governor distributed food items such as bottled water, fruits, and cooked meals to the Muslim faithful.
