Obi launches campaign in Lafia, after postponements

Supporters of Peter Obi have been urged to converge on Lafia on Saturday for the formal launch of his insurgent run for the Presidency which is banking on a miracle from God to beat moneybags and restore citizens’ fortunes from heartless thieves.

The launch comes after previous schedules for it in the North Central city, the capital of Nasarawa, were postponed for certain reasons, one being the unprecedented flood in 33 out of the 36 states.

Obi said he had to shift another planned launch from 25 October to visit and sympathise with flood victims in some states.

Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) spokesman Yunusa Tanko confirmed the new date to journalists.

“Our presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, had to visit affected states to empathise with affected states and communities across the country.

“After his visitations, the campaign council of our great party has deemed it necessary to earnestly start the campaign from the North Central geo-political zone of Nigeria,” Tanko said, according to The PUNCH.

“We call on our support groups and teeming supporters to make themselves available for a worthwhile campaign for the 2023 general elections.”

Support in Nasarawa

Nasarawa LP Chairman Alexander Emmanuel explained  in Lafia on 13 October that Obi chose the city to begin his campaign because of the support the people of Nasarawa have shown him and his running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed.

“Just like how other states of the country have been massively supporting the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Nasarawa State was the first to organise a street march in support of the Obi/Datti ticket,” he said, per Premium Times reporting.

“And I think that should be the reason the LP’s national leadership choose Nasarawa state for the campaign flag off on 18 October, 2022” now shifted to 29 October.

“So, I am urging everyone who have been yearning for a better Nigeria to come out in their numbers to welcome Obi/ Datti to Lafia.”

Emmanuel expressed optimism the LP would win the 2023 general election given the confidence of Nigerians in Obi and other candidates to turn things around for the better across the country.
