Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed gratitude to all those who showed concern in the alleged defamation case against human rights lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi.

He appreciated Nigerians on Friday in a post shared on X by the former spokesperson of Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, Tanko Yunusa.

TheNiche had earlier reported that  Farotimi was granted bail by an Ekiti Magistrate Court in a defamation case involving Afe Babalola.

He was, however,  required to pay N30 million bond, provide two sureties (one of whom must own a house), surrender his passport, and refrain from granting media interviews to regain his freedom.

Speaking on the development, Yunusa said that Obi has offered to assist Dele Farotimi to fulfill his bail conditions.

He added that as a proponent of the rule of law, the former Anambra State governor wants the issue resolved in a way that respects legal processes and benefits everyone involved.

Taking to his social media handle, Yunusa tweeted, “I consulted His Excellency, Peter Obi, as the leader of the Obidient Movement. As a respecter of rule of law, due process, and order, he offered to take Dele Farotimi on the bail conditions.”

He added, “His concern is that the situation be resolved in the best interest of all parties and our legal system.

“He extended his sincere appreciation to all concerned.”

Prior to this, Obi had visited Farotimi in Ekiti prison where he is currently being detained.
