Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, has claimed that the Federal Government is doing everything within its power to prevent him from participating in the 2027 presidential election.

He levelled the allegation while addressing a group of Nigerians in a video currently trending on social media.

Obi, who has since defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), also spoke about his political journey and reflected on past challenges.

He further noted that he has endured political isolation and various legal battles.

Speaking in the clip, Obi said: “I have been in this very difficult business where people abandon you completely for one election. I spent three years in court and no one followed me there. I have been impeached, returned to my village where no one wanted to see me, and removed from office twice.”

The former Anambra State governor noted that such experiences have shaped him for future challenges.

“So, there is nothing I will not see again. All these things being said about me are not new,” he added.

He called for a transparent and credible electoral process, arguing that the incumbent government already holds significant leverage heading into the 2027 general election.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria does not want me to contest in the 2027 presidential election,” Obi stated. “We are not asking for much. They already have the governors and ministers; we are only asking for a free and fair election. They have all the contacts. They know the Queen and the King, while we do not. They have everything.”
