Obaseki rejects court ruling reinstating Shuaibu, awaits appeal verdict

Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki has defied today’s court ruling quashing the impeachment of Philip Shuaibu as his Deputy and insisted incumbent Omobayo Godwins remains in the job.

Obaseki explained in a statement issued through his Media Assistant Crusoe Osagie that the status quo will remain pending the hearing and determination of the appeal of the judgment that had faulted the impeachment of Shaibu – even as the Abuja Federal High Court also nullified the impeachment today.

Osagie quoted another statement issued by Communication and Orientation Commissioner Chris Nehikhare as saying the state has filed a stay of execution on the previous ruling and urged the people of Edo to remain calm.

“Following the Federal High Court, Abuja judgement that faulted the impeachment of the erstwhile deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, the Edo State Government has filed a stay of execution of the judgement,” Nehikhare said.

“Pending the hearing of the appeal of the judgement, the incumbent Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Omobayo Marvellous Godwins, remains and continues to serve as the valid Deputy Governor of Edo State.

“He will continue to serve in this capacity and would be recognized as such.

“The government hereby calls on the people of Edo State to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses.”
