NYSC officials abscond as Sowore, others accompany Lagos corps member to answer summons

Officials of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who summoned an NYSC member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, also known as Raye, to their office on Monday absconded from duty.
The NYSC Local Government Inspector (LGI) in Eti-Osa, Lagos, had summoned Ms. Uguamaye after her video on TikTok where she criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu went viral.
But in a dramatic twist, human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, volunteered on Monday to accompany the embattled lady.
The corps member, in her post, lamented the increase in food prices, criticising President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Uguamaye raised alarm that she was being threatened by NYSC officials, adding that she was summoned before the LGI’s office at Eti Osa 3 at 10 am Monday, March 17.
However, in his post on X, Sowore claimed the LGI failed to show up for the meeting.
“We arrived Eti-Osa LGI offices of the @officialnyscng with youth Corper, Ushie Rita uguamaye in Lagos. She was scheduled to appear before the LGI today and we escorted her to their offices with attorneys,” he wrote.
“@mrfestusogun, @yinka_oyesomi and @justiceojienoh but LGI official had absconded failing to show up throughout our stay.”
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-presidential candidate Peter Obi have since thrown their weights behind Uguamaye, saying she must not be cowed into silence.
