The Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), Yobe State, Mrs Grace J Adzer, has appealed to Yobe State Governor, Maimala Buni, to review the state allowance paid to Corp members serving with the state owned institutions to at least N10,000 monthly.
She also urged the governor to provide lodges for NYSC members across the 17 local government areas of the state to create an enabling environment for the members to serve the state better.
She made the appeal during the closing ceremony of the 2019 Batch ‘B’ Stream II orientation course for Corps members deployed to the state.
“Already, we have mandated private organisations in the state to pay the sum of N10,000 with accommodation and N15,000 without accommodation which has since yielded positive result,” she said.
She further urged the Corp members to deploy their experience and expertise into developing their host communities.
“I can assure you that your employers and the host communities are ever ready to assist and support you towards the achievement of the vision of the NYSC scheme through creating the enabling environment for you to perform,” she said.
Adzer also advised them to reciprocate the kind gesture by offering to and join hands to move the state forward.
Her words: “You should be of good behaviour to members of the various communities and localities you are posted to, respect their culture, custom and religion. Please, be good ambassador of this noble scheme”.
Responding, Yobe State Governor, Maimala Buni, represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Youths, Sports and Social Development, expressed gratitude to the Corp members for exhibiting high level of discipline.
He assured of their safety, stressing, “We have directed all the security outfits in Yobe State to ensure safety of Corp members”.
The occasion witnessed presentation of awards to 10 outstanding performing persons during the orientation course.
