NSCDC to tackle vandalism in Bayelsa

-

By Amos Okioma

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Bayelsa State has urged parents to warn their children to desist from pipeline vandalism, illegal refinery, kidnapping and other vices.
It also assured that it was prepared to work in synergy and collaboration with other security agencies to reduce crime and criminality in the state.
The new commandant of the NSCDC in the state, Mr Nwachuku Godwin, stated this in his office in Yenagoa.
According to him, the functions of the security outfit whether in Bayelsa State or elsewhere remain the same, hence the command was ready to eradicate pipeline vandalism, bunkering, oil theft and other illegal activities that threaten the nation’s economy.

He said though he was new to the state, he has arrested some persons that were involved in theft of petroleum products and the suspects would be persecuted soon.
He also disclosed that the Command under his watch has declared zero tolerance to crime as tough time awaits anybody that is involved in criminal acts which are against the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, just as he appealed to the relevant authorities for equipment to effectively comb the nooks and crannies of Bayelsa State.
Nwachuku, who was deployed from the NSCDC Headquarters Abuja, described his relationship with Bayelsa State government as cordial.
He also pleaded for logistic support to enable the command carry out its duties efficiently.
He promised to organize an enlightenment and sensitization programme to inform the public on the dangers associated with pipeline vandalism and the need to protect them against vandals. He succeeded Desmond Agu, who had been posted to Benue as the State Commandant.
