NPA donates books to schools, urge students to make reading a habit

NPA management of the Tin Can Island Port (TCIP) on Thursday, urged secondary school students from Tolu Complex Olodi Apapa Lagos, to cultivate reading habits geared towards a brighter future in their chosen field of endeavours.

The NPA is the acronym for the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

The NPA’s advice is part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for schools within its neighbourhood, even as, items like textbooks, notebooks and other writing materials were distributed to the students from ten institutions.

Port Manager, TCIP, Engr. Ibrahim Yunusa Anji while addressing the students at Alakoto Secondary School,Tolu Complex, expressed the authority’s determination to support the educational drive for schools within the community adding that NPA would always give back to the immediate society in line with its CSR.

The Port Manager urged the students to cultivate reading habits and the need for them to devote ample time for their studies.

He said NPA is determined and dedicated to giving back to the immediate community pointing out that Tin Can Island Port has a major role to play in the society mostly as it affects education.

“If the community is bad the organisations around it cannot progress and that is why we have to go we have to give back to the community.

“Our relationship with the community can only get better when we provide for the community because the education of the children is paramount.

He urged the students to make good use of textbooks and notebooks as a veritable tool to acquire knowledge.

Anji noted that CRS is the key function of the NPA and the management team of the authority is very keen to empower students through the gesture.

The Port Manager added that some of the books should serve as reference materials for research works urging the management of the schools to equip their libraries.

Also speaking, the Director, Schools Administration in charge of Agboju Amuwo District, Lagos, Mrs Yekini Shefi commended the management of the NPA for the gesture.

TheNiche gathered that NPA has been instrumental in supporting most of the secondary schools within the Tolu Complex.

The Director disclosed NPA had built three blocks of classrooms for a particular school in the complex and the Lagos State Government is pleased with the development.

She appreciated the management of NPA on behalf of the schools adding that the maritime agency has been supportive in time past to ensure that the schools are equipped with the necessary materials for reading and learning to thrive.

The ten schools that benefitted from the CSR exercise include Adeolu Secondary School (Junior), Tin Can Island High School, (Junior), Alakoto High School (Junior), Reservation Secondary School (Junior) and Expressway Secondary School (Junior).

Others are: Unity Senior Secondary School, Oshodi Senior Secondary School, Bola Ige Millennium Secondary School, Oluwa Memorial Senior Secondary School and Newland Senior Secondary School
