A notorious Robbery kingpin who has been terrorizing residents of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and its environs for several years has been arrested by a vigilante group in the area.
Udo Felix who hails from Abak local government area of the state is a member a robbery syndicate in Akwa Ibom state that specializes in kidnapping, snatching of cars and breaking into homes to dispossess victims of their property.
He was arrested by the vigilante group in collaboration with the Divisional Police officers and handed over to the police state commissioner, Gabriel Achong, while the other members of his syndicate are still at large.
Speaking during the hand-over ceremony at the command headquarters at Ikot Akpanabia, Uyo, at the weekend the Transition Committee chairman of the Nsit Ubium, local government, on Oto Edemidiong, commended members of the group and the police whose synergy lead to the arrest of the criminal.
He disclosed that the gang which operates from Cross River to Akwa Ibom State had successfully dispossessed their victims of several vehicles, the most recent of which was a pastor of a church whose car was snatched at gun point.
The chairman who used the occasion to re-iterate his administration’s zero tolerance to crime also expressed his commitment to protect lives and properties, development of the committee and sanitation of the entire Local Government Area in line with instructions handed down by governor Udom Emmanuel during the swearing in ceremony.
While lamenting that Nsit Ubium has been noted for criminal activities in the past especially in kidnapping and other violent crimes he vowed to fight criminal activities to stand still with the cooperation of the police and the community.
In his reaction the state commissioner, Gabriel Achong, who retired from the service on Friday commended the efforts of the chairman and called on all the indigenes to always provide useful information to the police in order to track down criminals in the state.
He further added that his men would soon swing into action to arrest other culprits and bring them to book.
